Enabling Taxes<\/strong><\/h3>

To access the tax settings screens, they first need to be enabled.<\/p>

  1. Go to: WooCommerce<\/b> > Settings<\/b> > General<\/b>.<\/li>
  2. Select the Enable Taxes and Tax Calculations<\/b> checkbox.<\/li>
  3. Save changes.\"\"<\/a><\/li><\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

    Configuring Tax Options<\/strong><\/h3>

    Once taxes are enabled as described above, the Tax<\/strong> tab will appear.<\/p>

    1. Go to: WooCommerce<\/b> > Settings<\/b> > Tax<\/b>.<\/li>
    2. Find the Calculate tax based on<\/b>\u00a0option, select “Shop base address<\/b>“.<\/li>
    3. Find the Prices entered with tax<\/b> option, if you select “No, I will enter prices exclusive of tax<\/b>“, then for the “Display prices in the shop<\/b>” option and the “Display prices during cart and checkout<\/b>” option, please select “Excluding tax<\/b>” for both options. Please keep consistent.\"\"<\/a><\/li>
    4. If you select “Yes, I will enter prices inclusive of tax” for the Prices entered with tax option,\u00a0then for the “<\/span>Display prices in the shop<\/span>” option and the “<\/span>Display prices during cart and checkout<\/span>” option, please select “<\/span>Excluding tax<\/span>” for both options. \"\"<\/a><\/span><\/li>
    5. If any of the 3 tax display settings (Prices entered with tax, Display prices in the shop, Display prices during cart and checkout) differ, a warning banner will appear to notify the user when the tax display settings are mismatched and in conflict. Clicking on \u201cUse recommended settings\u201d should change all the settings to be the same as the one set for \u201cPrices entered with tax\u201d.\"\"<\/a><\/li>

      Setting up tax rates<\/strong><\/h3>

      Once WooCommerce taxes are enabled, Rooms<\/strong> and Extra Services<\/strong> on the website will be taxed at the rates set in “Standard rates<\/strong>“.<\/p>

      1. Go to: WooCommerce<\/b> > Settings<\/b> > Tax > Standard rates<\/b>.<\/li>
      2. Click the “Insert row<\/b>” button to get started .\"\"<\/a><\/li>
      3. Country Code<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 2 digit country code for the rate. Use\u00a0ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 codes<\/a>. Leave blank (*) to apply to all countries.\u00a0<\/li>
      4. If you choose to enter a country code, make sure it matches the “Country\/State<\/strong>” selected in WooCommerce<\/strong> > Settings<\/strong> > General<\/strong> > Store Address<\/strong>.<\/li>
      5. Rate<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>% \u2013 Enter the tax rate, for example, 10 for a tax rate of 10%.<\/span><\/li>
      6. Tax Name<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u2013 Name your tax, e.g. VAT, or City Tax.<\/span><\/li>
      7. Priority<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u2013 Choose a priority for this tax rate. Only 1 matching rate per priority will be used. To define multiple tax rates for a single area you need to specify a different priority per rate.<\/span><\/li>
      8. Compound<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u2013 If this rate is compound (applied on top of all prior taxes) check this box.<\/span><\/li>
      9. Save changes.<\/li><\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

        Display tax information on the page<\/strong><\/h3>
        For “Yes, I will enter prices inclusive of tax”<\/strong><\/h5>

        “Yes, I will enter prices inclusive of tax”<\/strong>\u00a0means that all catalog prices are input using your store\u2019s base tax rate.<\/p>

        For example, the tax rate we set is 10%, called “City Tax”. The room rate is $300 per night and the cleaning fee is $20 per room per night, both prices include the 10% city tax.<\/p>

        The tax calculation for tax-inclusive<\/strong>\u00a0prices is:<\/p>

        tax_amount = price - ( price \/ ( ( tax_rate_% \/ 100 ) + 1 ) )<\/code><\/p>

        So when booking a room for one night, the cost is $300 plus $20 for a total of $320, which includes tax of $29.09.<\/p>

        For “No, I will enter prices exclusive of tax”<\/strong><\/h5>

        “No, I will enter prices exclusive of tax”<\/strong> would mean that your catalog prices need to be tax exclusive.<\/p>

        The tax calculation for tax-exclusive<\/strong>\u00a0prices is:<\/p>

        tax_amount = price * ( tax_rate_% \/ 100 )<\/code><\/p>

        Using the example from above, the room rate is $300 per night and the cleaning fee is $20 per room per night. So when booking a room for one night, the cost is $300 plus $20 for a total of $320. A tax of 10% would be applied on top of this during checkout making the amount payable $352.<\/p>
